Arne Slot hails Salah’s brilliance despite draw at Newcastle

Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised Mohamed Salah’s exceptional performance after the forward’s brace salvaged a dramatic 3-3 draw against Newcastle on Wednesday.

Fabian Schar’s late equalizer denied Liverpool an eighth straight win across all competitions, reducing their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points. However, Salah’s influence remains undeniable, with the Egyptian now boasting 15 goals in all competitions this season, including nine in his last seven league matches.

Despite speculation surrounding Salah’s future—with his contract expiring at the end of the season and reports of a potential move to Saudi Arabia—Slot emphasized the 32-year-old’s value to Liverpool.

“He’s in a very good place right now,” Arne Slot said. “Even when he’s not at his best, he can change a game with moments of brilliance. That’s what makes him truly special.”

Salah demonstrated his class in the second half, assisting Curtis Jones’ equalizer before scoring twice to briefly put Liverpool ahead. Slot highlighted Salah’s clinical finishing and his ability to remain a constant threat, even after a quiet start.

Newcastle initially took the lead through Alexander Isak’s stunning strike in the 35th minute, with Anthony Gordon restoring their advantage after Jones’ equalizer. Salah’s two goals seemed to have secured the win for Liverpool, but a misjudgment by goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher gifted Newcastle their late equalizer.

Liverpool remain in pole position for their first Premier League title since 2020, with Salah’s form continuing to be a driving force for the team.
