West Ham United have confirmed that forward Michail Antonio is in a stable condition after being involved in a car accident on Saturday afternoon. The 34-year-old was taken to a central London hospital, where he remains under close medical supervision.
In an official statement, the Premier League club said Antonio is “conscious and communicating” and requested privacy for the player and his family during this time. The club extended their “thoughts and prayers” to Antonio, his family, and friends, while promising further updates when appropriate.
The accident occurred in Epping, Essex, involving a Ferrari. Firefighters from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 1:02 PM, where they worked to free Antonio from his vehicle by 1:45 PM.
Essex Police are investigating the crash and have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage to help determine the circumstances of the incident.
Antonio joined West Ham in 2015 from Nottingham Forest and has become a key figure for the Hammers, scoring 68 goals in 268 Premier League appearances.
West Ham are scheduled to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Monday.
