I did not deserve Asante Kotoko’s technical directorship role – Kwesi Appiah

Kwesi Appiah has clarified his decision to step away from the technical directorship role at Asante Kotoko, citing his commitments as head coach of Sudan’s national team.

Appiah, initially appointed as the Head of Sporting Affairs as part of the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), explained that he could not fully dedicate himself to the position due to frequent absences. As a result, club legend Malik Jabir has taken over the role.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Kwesi Appiah shared, “The truth is, I did not deserve the technical directorship at Kotoko because of my work with Sudan. We needed someone available to help Prosper Narteh Ogum focus on coaching the team, and Malik Jabir was the right choice.”

Jabir, a former Kotoko player and coach of Ghana’s national teams, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Appiah revealed that Jabir’s responsibilities would include traveling with the team, and an assistant technical director will be appointed to provide additional support when needed.

Prosper Narteh Ogum, initially part of the IMC, has also transitioned to focusing solely on his role as head coach.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko is gearing up for a crucial Week 13 Ghana Premier League clash against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium.
