Pep Guardiola brushes off pressure amid Manchester City’s tough run

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists he is “fine” despite the toll of his team’s worst run of results affecting his sleep and diet. In an interview with Luca Toni for Amazon Prime Sport, Guardiola admitted that his current state of mind has been challenging, describing it as “ugly.”

City have won just once in their last 10 matches, a slump highlighted by Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Juventus, which has jeopardized their qualification hopes. Ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby at the Etihad, Guardiola acknowledged the pressure of the situation but remains focused on improvement.

“In our jobs, we always want to do our best. When that doesn’t happen, you feel uncomfortable,” Pep Guardiola said. “I’m fine, but in good moments, I’m happier. In bad ones, I’m still focused on what I have to do next.”

City’s defensive frailties have been central to their struggles, with Guardiola emphasizing the need to “avoid mistakes at both ends.” He cited their collapse against Sporting Lisbon, where a strong start unraveled in an 11-minute spell, leading to a 4-1 loss.

Injuries compound City’s issues, with defenders Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji doubtful for the derby. Despite these challenges, Guardiola remains optimistic, especially given Manchester United’s own inconsistencies under Ruben Amorim.

While United secured a Europa League comeback win over Viktoria Plzen, their Premier League form remains shaky, with consecutive losses to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. However, Guardiola sees clear progress in Amorim’s approach, adding, “He will do a good job at United, I’m pretty sure of that.”

As the Manchester derby looms, both teams seek a revival in what promises to be a pivotal clash.
