Sudan’s head coach, James Kwesi Appiah, has expressed his determination to lead his team to victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in North Africa.
Appiah, who masterminded Sudan’s qualification for their first AFCON appearance since 2012, is aiming to make history with the team. Sudan secured their spot by finishing second in Group F during the qualifiers, amassing 8 points to seal their place in the continental tournament.
In an interview with Akoma FM, the former Ghana Black Stars coach outlined his ambitions:
“By God’s grace, we have qualified, and we will prepare very well to ensure we have a strong team before the AFCON. Any competition we enter, we aim to win,” Appiah stated.
Rejecting the idea of participating with low expectations, Appiah emphasized his belief in aiming for the ultimate prize.
“Nothing is impossible in football. Who knew Ivory Coast would win AFCON 2023 after nearly being eliminated? Football has matured, and no team should be underestimated,” he added.
The 2025 AFCON tournament will kick off on Sunday, December 21, 2025, with the final slated for Sunday, January 18, 2026. Appiah’s bold aspirations underline his commitment to achieving success and putting Sudanese football on the map.
