President John Mahama has officially renamed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, as part of a broader government restructuring initiative.
This change, executed under Section 11 (3) of the Civil Service Act, 1993 (P.N.D. Law 327), separates the responsibilities of youth and sports into two distinct ministries. The youth sector will now operate independently as the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.
The reorganization reduces the total number of ministries to 23, down from 30 under the previous administration, aligning with the president’s goal of creating a more efficient government structure.
President Mahama is expected to announce a new Sports Minister in the coming week, with former Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuije being a strong contender for the position.
