Otto Addo ‘s competence as head coach of the Black Stars was questioned by Ghanaian sports journalist after Ghana’s defeat to Niger on Monday.
The unknown sports journalist attacked the Black Stars’ head coach at the press conference, claiming he is a better scout than a coach.
Coach Otto Addo’s team failed to win six AFCON qualifying matches. The Black Star ended their qualifying campaign with three wins and three draws from 6 games.
It was also the first time since 2004 that the country won’t be playing at the continental showpiece.
To worsen the situation, Otto Addo’s side scored just three goals throughout the campaign while conceding seven goals and keeping only one clean sheet.
The team’s awful performances have left a lot of Ghanaians questioning the competence of the former Borussia Dortmund Scout. At the same time, many have also asked for his resignation after his side’s elimination.
The Black Stars defeat to Niger sparked a lot of controversies after the game. Most notable was a confrontation between an unknown Ghanaian journalist and Otto Addo.
“I think you scouting is better than you coaching”, said the journalist to Otto Addo.
“You are better at scouting than coaching because at coaching you are not good at all,” he further said.
It is considered Otto Addo is under intense pressure following the team’s exit. Several reports suggest the Ghana Football Association and other stakeholders will meet in the coming days to discuss the future of the coach.
Despite signing a long-term contract, the sacking of Coach Otto Addo could still be on the cards.
Ghana play next in March 2025 in the World Cup qualifiers.
