In an interview with Sky Sports, the AFC Bournemouth forward revealed that he opted out of Black Stars’ duty to focus on recovery, citing the need to recharge after a rigorous schedule.
Semenyo’s absence saw Ghana play out a 1-1 draw against Angola in Luanda and suffer a 2-1 loss to Niger in Accra during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Unfortunately, the results meant Ghana failed to secure a spot in next year’s tournament.
Reflecting on his decision, the 24-year-old said, “I just relaxed the body, really. I took some time away in Iberia to unwind and rest after the tough games and all the running around. It was a chance to have some downtime for myself. Now, my body feels fresh and ready to go again.”
Semenyo has been in impressive form this season, scoring four goals and providing an assist in 11 appearances for Bournemouth. He also ranks third in the league for successful dribbles (24), following his fellow Black Stars teammates Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (29) and Mohammed Kudus (28).
