Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele visited the Black Maidens’ camp on Thursday to motivate the team ahead of the WAFU Girls U-17 tournament.

Pele, a key member of Ghana’s 1982 AFCON-winning squad, brought smiles to the players as he addressed them at their training base, the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram. His visit followed the team’s impressive 5-1 victory over Rootz Sistaz in their first preparatory match on Wednesday.

The Black Maidens are set to face Epiphany on Friday and Sissamba Ladies on Sunday in their final warm-up games before the tournament.

Speaking to the team after observing their intense training session, Abedi Pele expressed confidence in their abilities and encouraged them to aim for success.

“I am eagerly looking forward to seeing the Black Maidens dominate in the upcoming tournament. I hope you win it,” he said. “I’m impressed with how well you are following your coaches’ instructions. Stay focused and disciplined.”

Host nation Ghana has been drawn into Group A alongside Burkina Faso and Benin. The tournament kicks off on December 12, with the final slated for December 26. All matches will be played at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence.
