AFCON 2025 Q: Youngster Jerry Afriyie, 2 GPL players earn late call-up for Niger Clash

Thoughts FC youngster, Jerry Afriyie, and two other Ghana Premier League players have earned late call-ups to the Black Stars for their AFCON qualifier against Niger on Monday.

The 18-year-old striker will join the team in their final AFCON qualification game against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday. 

Medeama SC right back, Kamaradini Mamudu, and Heart of Lions center back, Ebenezer Abban, are also expected to join the team. 

The three players are expected to bolster the squad which has had a number of its players withdraw through injury. Alidu Seidu, Gideon Mensah, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, and Captain Jordan Ayew became the latest set of players to withdraw from the team. 

Jerry Afriyie has been in fine form this season for both club and country and is expected to get some minutes on Monday. 

The young striker was a key member of the Ghana U20 team that won gold at the 2024 African Games. He was also crowned best player and top scorer of the WAFU Zone B U-20 Cup of Nations in Togo.

Kamaradini has also featured 9 times for Medeama in the Ghana Premier League this season. The right-back has scored 2 goals and won one Man of the Match award in 810 Minutes of Premier League action. 

Heart of Lions center back, Ebenezer Abban, has made 11 appearances in the Ghana Premier League this season. The lanky defender has helped his side keep 8 clean sheets this season, the joint most in the GPL. 

The game against Niger is set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18, 2024.
