Andre Ayew has shared a heartfelt message to Olympique Marseille fans following the warm reception he received during Le Havre’s league visit to the Stade Velodrome.
The Ghanaian midfielder, who began his professional career at Marseille, faced his former club for the first time this season. Despite Le Havre’s struggles, Ayew scored in the match, refraining from celebrating as a gesture of respect to the team that shaped his early career.
After the game, Ayew took to social media to express his appreciation for the ovation he received when substituted in the 88th minute.
“An evening full of emotions and reunions,” Ayew wrote. “Thank you to the people of Marseille for the welcome and this moment that will stay in my heart. I will never forget it.”
Despite the emotional reunion, Le Havre suffered a defeat. Ayew addressed the loss, rallying his current team’s fans and vowing to continue their fight against relegation.
“Not easy to lose the first game of the year. Thank you to the supporters who stood by us. We’re not going to give up; the marathon continues,” Ayew added.
