Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has lauded teammate Justin Kluivert after Bournemouth shocked Newcastle United with a commanding 4-1 win at St James’ Park.
Kluivert was the star of the evening, netting a brilliant hat-trick, while Milos Kerkez added another to cap off a dominant performance by the Cherries.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Semenyo, who provided an assist for one of Kluivert’s goals lauded the Dutchman’s clinical finishing and said it is key for his team’s progress.
“Justin’s finishes were special. He’s a top player for us. It was a well-deserved hat-trick, he’s an example to us strikers“ Semenyo remarked.
The Ghanaian forward also highlighted Bournemouth’s strategic pressing game, which proved pivotal in edging Newcastle.
“We just knew we needed to get the press right, and if we did, we’d get opportunities,“ Semenyo explained. “As soon as the goalkeeper passed to the centre-back, that was our trigger to go, and it worked out perfectly.”
Bournemouth’s win extends their unbeaten Premier League run to 11 matches, a testament to their resilience despite battling injuries. Semenyo credited the team’s mental toughness for their consistency.
“It’s all mindset. Our mindset is just so strong; we are mentally tough. We go through these tough moments with injuries, but we know collectively we can do it,“ he said.
With six goals and three assists in 21 Premier League games, Antoine Semenyo has been key in Bournemouth’s campaign.
However, the forward was happy to shine the spotlight on Kluivert and the team’s “crazy performance”, aiming for further successes this campaign.
The win strengthens Bournemouth’s position as a formidable force in the league, currently sitting sixth on the Premier League table.
