Asamoah Gyan calls for unity and support for Mahama’s government

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) government following a peaceful 2024 election. John Dramani Mahama, returning to office after eight years in opposition, secured a landslide victory over the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Gyan, known for his influence on and off the pitch, took to social media to share his thoughts, urging citizens to set aside party politics and focus on national development.

“Let’s support the government. Any government that comes to power deserves our backing. If we continue practices like selling goods at exorbitant prices, the country will face hardships,” Gyan remarked.

He further emphasized the importance of unity, adding, “Ghana has made its choice. It’s time to congratulate the new government and work together to move the nation forward. As citizens, we must also change our attitudes to support development.”

Ahead of the election, Asamoah Gyan had distanced himself from active political involvement, withdrawing from Vice President Bawumia’s manifesto team to concentrate on his philanthropic work, deeming it inappropriate to engage in partisan politics.

With 51 goals in 109 appearances, Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and a respected voice, advocating for unity and progress in the nation.
