Asante Kotoko secured a place in the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over lower-tier side Acceler8z FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors faced a determined opponent, making their progression hard-earned. Head coach Prosper Ogum rotated his squad, providing fringe players a chance to showcase their abilities. Despite the changes, Kotoko struggled to break down their resilient opponents until Kwame Poku converted a penalty just before halftime. The spot-kick was awarded after Saaka Dauda was brought down in the box.

Acceler8z FC came out fighting in the second half, testing Kotoko’s defense and keeping the contest tight. However, substitute Ansu Henry calmed nerves late in the game with a well-taken goal, ensuring victory for the home side.

The win keeps Kotoko on track to claim their first FA Cup title since 2017. As nine-time champions, the club is determined to reclaim their dominance in the competition and will look forward to a favorable draw in the next round as they chase silverware this season.
