The Black Stars fell short in the qualifiers, managing just three points in six matches against Angola, Sudan, and Niger, ending their hopes of participating in Morocco 2025. The team’s technical bench, led by Otto Addo, has faced heavy criticism, with many demanding changes in the coaching setup.
Speaking on Joy Sports’ Prime Take, Arhinful highlighted that poor decisions by the GFA were a significant factor in Ghana’s disappointing campaign.
“If they [GFA] had hired the best coaches, we wouldn’t be here,” Arhinful stated. “I’m not saying the people they hired are the worst, but with the right appointments and proper structures, we might have qualified for AFCON.”
He also advised Otto Addo to adopt a more aggressive strategy, particularly during home games.
“Otto Addo is often too cautious in his approach, playing two defensive midfielders, whether at home or away. While this is understandable for away games, home matches require a more offensive mindset,” Augustine Arhinful added.
The Black Stars’ failure marks a low point for Ghanaian football, sparking debates about the team’s leadership and strategies moving forward.
