Former Bechem United head coach Kassim Mingle Ocansey has revealed that the club was never ready to win the Ghana Premier League title during his time at the club.

The current Nations FC coach disclosed that despite coming close to winning the GPL title on two separate occasions, the club never offered their support. However, they were only focused on developing talents.

Kassim Mingle Ocansey was the head coach of Bechem United from March 2021 to June 2023. Leading the team to consecutive top-four finishes in each of the two seasons as head coach.

He asserted that despite efforts made by him to push for the league title, the club only prioritized grooming and selling of young players.

“I could’ve won the league during my time at Bechem,” Kassim Mingle disclosed. “I came close twice during my days as head coach. I came to realize the club was never interested in winning the league. They only cared about grooming and nurturing football talents.

In his first season with the club, Mingle led the team to a third-place finish. He replicated the same feat the following season, this time missing out on the title to Medeama by just six points.

The astute tactician was poached by newcomers Nations FC at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign. He guided the newbies to a 7th-place finish in his very first season in charge.

When asked if he feels his Nation’s FC side is ready to challenge for the title this season he responded, “Yes. I feel it coming, and hopefully, we could try and win it this season.

The Abrankese-based club currently sits in second place on the Ghana Premier League table with 22 points. They trail leaders Bibiani Gold Stars by just a point heading into their matchday 13 fixture against struggling Accra Lions.
