Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas have named Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new manager. The 51-year-old Norwegian has signed a contract that runs until the end of next season, with an option to extend for an additional year.
This appointment marks Solskjaer’s return to management after a two-year hiatus following his departure from Manchester United in 2021. The former United striker and manager takes over a Besiktas side currently sixth in the Super Lig standings and aiming to climb higher under his leadership.
“We believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make significant contributions to our club, and we warmly welcome him to the Besiktas family, wishing him great success,” the club stated.
Besiktas have been without a permanent head coach since Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s departure in November. The club, which boasts 16 league titles, hosts Samsunspor on Saturday and faces Antalyaspor in their next league fixture.
In addition to their domestic campaign, Besiktas remain in contention in the Europa League, sitting just one point shy of the play-off spots with two games left in the group phase.
