Black Stars managers don’t value ex players advice – Tony Yeboah

Former Ghana international, Anthony Yeboah has touched on Ghana’s elimination from the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, emphasizing that managers of the Black Stars ‘don’t value advice from ex players’.

On Friday, November 15, 2024, Ghana’s men’s national team, The Black Stars found themselves officially eliminated from the 2025 AFCON qualifiers after the team’s 1-1 draw against Angola in Luanda.

Ghana failed to rise to the occasion and show their quality to edge the hosts away from home, and their elimination means the team’s 10 successive streak on the continental front has come to an end.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM, Tony Yeboah insisted that the team’s leadership decision to ignore advice from former players and administrators is a reason for the Black Stars’ recurring decline.

“The current management of the Black Stars does not value or act on the advice we, as former players, offer.”

Anthony Yeboah made 59 appearances for the Black Stars and netted 29 times between 1985-1997.

The Black Stars currently sit bottom in Group F with only 3 points after five matches and will face Niger next at home, earnest seeking for their first 2025 AFCON qualifiers win.

Ghanaians have been left furious after the Black Stars failed to pick up their first win the qualifying series after the fifth Matchday, and believe immediate action is needed to be taken to salvage the situation.

Many have called for the sack of Otto Addo, while others have labelled the failure of Ghana in recent AFCON tournaments and qualifiers as one that emanates from the poor management by its managers.

Otto Addo recorded a 28 percent win rate in his two stints as Ghana head coach after leading the team in 21 matches.

Tony Yeboah’s words have now become a sentiment shared by many others who believe the Black Stars have been poorly run in the last years under the Kurt Okraku-led administration.
