CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has extended heartfelt congratulations to Morocco for securing co-hosting rights for the FIFA World Cup 2030 alongside Portugal and Spain. The decision was confirmed at the FIFA Extraordinary Congress held on Wednesday.
This marks a historic moment for African football, with Morocco becoming only the second African nation to host the global tournament, following South Africa in 2010. The 2030 edition will include 48 teams and feature centenary matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to commemorate the World Cup’s 100-year legacy.
Dr. Motsepe praised the collaboration between Africa and Europe, calling it an inspiring partnership that underscores the unifying power of football. “Today is a proud day for African football. We commend His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Government, and the people of Morocco for their leadership and vision,” he said.
He also acknowledged the efforts of Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football, and the 54 CAF Member Associations for their unified support of Morocco’s bid. Dr. Motsepe extended gratitude to FIFA President Gianni Infantino for his leadership and recognized the role of FIFA’s 211 members in granting Morocco this honor.
The 2030 FIFA World Cup will take place from 13 June to 21 July 2030.
