Epiphany Warriors FC returned to winning ways after defeating rivals Jonina Ladies 1-0 on Matchday 6 of the 2024/25 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.
The Monday afternoon fixture at the Adjringannor Astro Turf saw the home side avenge their FA Cup round of 64 loss to the same opponent weeks ago.
The visitors had the best chance to take the lead very early in the game, but for a mistimed shot. Both teams will create few chances but will fail to convert as the first half ended goalless.
Epiphany Warriors would be awarded a spot kick in the 76th minute by the referee for a cynical foul by a Jonina FC defender.
Jessica Asamoah’s perfect strike ensured the newly promoted side walked away with all three points.
The win was the Warriors’ second in their first three games at home since gaining promotion to the top flight. It also takes them to 10 points after the first six games of the 2024/25 season.
The defeat for Jonina Ladies is their first of the 2024/25 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League season. They had recorded four wins and a draw in their first five games.
Epiphany Warriors travel to face Berry Ladies at the Madina Astro Turf on Matchday 7. Jonina Ladies will also host Lady Strikers FC at the Antie Aku Astro Turf when the league resumes after the general elections on December 7th.
