Frank Lampard appointed head coach of Coventry city

Former Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard has been named the new head coach of Coventry City on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

The 46-year-old takes charge of the Championship side, who currently sit 17th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone.

Lampard replaces Mark Robins, who was dismissed earlier this month after seven years in charge. This marks the first managerial appointment by Coventry owner Doug King since his takeover in January 2023.

The role at Coventry is Lampard’s fifth in management. Frank Lampard previously managed Derby County, Everton, and Chelsea, where he had two separate spells, including an interim role that ended in May 2023. Since then, Lampard has primarily worked as a football pundit.

His managerial debut with Coventry City will take place at home against Cardiff City on Saturday, as he aims to guide the Sky Blues out of relegation trouble and up the Championship table.
