The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Kassim Ocansey as the new head coach of the Black Meteors, the national U23 male football team.
Ocansey, currently managing Nations FC, assumes the role following the team’s dissolution in 2023 after failing to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Under the previous leadership of Coach Ibrahim Tanko, the Black Meteors were eliminated in the group stages of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, continuing Ghana’s absence from the Olympics since 2004.
The GFA hailed Ocansey as “the ideal candidate to lead the Black Meteors in their quest to regain their past glory” and expressed confidence in his ability to build a competitive team capable of success on the international stage.
With Nations FC currently sitting third in the ongoing Ghana Premier League under his guidance, Ocansey brings a wealth of experience, having also managed Accra Great Olympics and Bechem United.
