GFA confirms renewal talks with Nora Hauptle fell through

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that it initiated contract renewal discussions with former Black Queens head coach Nora Hauptle in June 2024, but the Swiss tactician opted not to extend her stay.

Hauptle, who took over in 2023, revitalized the senior women’s national team, guiding them to qualify for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. However, with her contract expiring on December 31, 2024, Hauptle declined the GFA’s offer of an enhanced salary and working conditions, choosing instead to join Zambia’s Copper Queens on a three-year deal.

In a statement, the GFA expressed gratitude for Hauptle’s contributions and reiterated its commitment to women’s football.
“The Ghana Football Association announces the expiry of its contract with Nora Hauptle, erstwhile Head Coach of the Black Queens. We thank Nora for her service to the Black Queens and Ghana Women’s Football,” the statement read.

The GFA emphasized its efforts to retain Hauptle, stating, “Knowing her contract would end on December 31, 2024, we opened renewal talks in June 2024, presenting her with a significantly enhanced salary and working proposition. Unfortunately, both parties could not agree on the terms.”

With just six months until the WAFCON tournament, the Black Queens are currently without a head coach. The GFA assured fans that a replacement would be announced soon to lead the team in their quest for continental success.
