The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Otto Addo will remain as head coach of the Black Stars, despite the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The decision, announced by Black Stars management committee chairman Randy Abbey, reflects the GFA’s commitment to continuity amid challenging times.
Speaking on Original FM, Abbey stated, “The GFA is keeping Otto Addo. Immediately, it’s about the World Cup qualifiers that start in March.”
Ghana’s AFCON qualifiers ended in disappointment, with the team finishing bottom of their group and failing to secure a single win. However, the GFA hopes Addo’s leadership will help reverse the team’s fortunes as they prepare for crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March.
To strengthen the coaching setup, the GFA is reportedly planning changes to the backroom staff, with assistant coaches Joseph Laumann and John Paintsil expected to be replaced.
In a related development, the Black Stars management committee has been restructured, with Randy Abbey as chairman and former captain Stephen Appiah appointed vice chairman.
