GFA to decide Otto Addo’s future at next executive council meeting

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to determine the fate of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo at its upcoming Executive Council meeting, according to Communications Director Henry Asante Twum.

Addo’s position has come under intense scrutiny following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Black Stars recorded three losses and three draws during the qualifiers, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Asante Twum revealed that the council held an extensive meeting to review Addo’s performance after he submitted his technical report. “The Executive Council held about a seven-hour meeting, and members discussed areas of concern such as player management, tactics, and call-ups,” Asante Twum stated.

Despite these discussions, no decision was made regarding Addo’s future. “I cannot predict whether the council wants him to stay or leave, but I know a decision will be made at the next meeting,” he added.

Appointed in March 2024 on a three-year deal, Addo replaced Chris Hughton as head coach. However, with just two wins in 10 games last year, his tenure has raised doubts among fans and officials alike.

The next Executive Council meeting is expected to provide clarity on the Black Stars’ coaching situation as Ghana prepares to resume the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March.
