Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu faces a challenging road to recovery after sustaining a serious knee injury during Stade Rennais’ Ligue 1 game against Lille on Sunday evening.
The Black Stars right-back was forced off the pitch after just 17 minutes when he awkwardly landed and ruptured the cruciate ligaments in his left knee. Following on-field treatment, Seidu was replaced by Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye. The Ghanaian was later seen using crutches, signaling the severity of his condition.
Rennais manager Jorge Sampaoli confirmed that further tests will be conducted to assess the extent of the injury. “I can’t diagnose; we will do tests tomorrow,” Sampaoli said after the match.
The game ended in favor of Lille, with Edon Zhegrova’s first-half goal securing a narrow 1-0 victory at the Decathlon Arena-Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Seidu, who joined Stade Rennais in January 2024, has been instrumental for the team, earning the club’s Player of the Month award in September.
