Gladson Awako says his big influence at Hearts led to his exit

Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Gladson Awako has revealed that his departure from the club was as a result of his rising influence and leadership.

Awako joined the Phobians back in 2021 and left in September 2023 after he secured an FA Cup title during his time with the club.

Awako has revealed in an interview with Asempa FM that internal politics within Hearts of Oak played a major role in his departure.

“Hearts of Oak and Olympics are two different clubs. One is political, and the other is not. At a point, they felt I was becoming too influential, so they decided to let me go, though I had no personal issues with anyone,” he said.

Awako also stated that the leadership responsibilities afforded him by former coach Slavko Matić added to his rising influence in the team.

“The leadership roles assigned to me by the coach gave me authority, and they believed allowing me to continue in those roles would not benefit some individuals within the club. So, they opted to part ways with me,” he said.

Gladson Awako rejoined Accra Great Olympics after he left Hearts of Oak and is now competing in the Division One League after Oly Dade were relegated.
