Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has candidly stated that the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be unforgivable in the minds of many for the next years.
Ghana failed to book a place at the continental showpiece for the first time in two decades, and finished bottom in their qualification group.
The Black Stars grabbed only three points from six games; two each against Sudan, Niger and Angola as they failed to win a game.
In an interview with JoySports, Henry Asante Twum stated that it is a difficult moment that will linger at the back of many Ghanaians for years as the AFCON is always a special place to be.
“It’s not been easy especially when history will not forgive you. In 2004 when we didn’t qualify for the AFCON, it’s always been the reference point…,”
“Twenty years down the line, we fail to qualify, and it is during a time when some of us are at the helm of affairs. History will not forgive us; [Not qualifying for the AFCON] will always hang around our necks which is a difficult thing to take around this time.
“But at the end of the day, we have to move on. We are a powerful football nation, there are difficulties around this time, we have to sieve the seal and pick the positives.”
The Black Stars return to action in March when the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers resume.
