Former Ghana men’s national team head coach CK Akonnor has revealed that he was not afforded ‘the support he needed’ from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku when he led the technical bench of the Black Stars.
Akonnor interestingly has the highest winning rate for a Black Stars head coach in the last four years with a 40 percent win rate from 10 matches.
However, he was fired from his role after a series of inconsistent results, and has left his thoughts on his relationship with the current GFA president amid Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers woes.
“A lot of peple think the GFA president Kurt Okraku was my friend, and its actually the opposite. I didnt have the necessary support from him” CK Akonnor said via JOY NEWS.
Ghana missed out on Africa for the first time in 20 years under Otto Addo in the qualifiers this month, and have faced criticism from many fans and the press around the world.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly set to discuss the future of Otto Addo and Ghana’s AFCON failure on Wednesday November 20 to try and turn the difficult situation around and make plans for the future.
For the fans, the first line of action should be the resignation of the current GFA leadership who have consistently failed the nation and have refused to be held accountable for the poor administration of Ghana Football.
However, Okraku’s administration looks far from focused on the noise, and look set to communicate their decision on the current crisis and salvage the situation.
