President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has made his first public statement regarding his absence in the wake of the tragic death of Yaw Frimpong, known as Nana Pooley, a supporter of Asante Kotoko.
The matter had prompted widespread criticism due to his silence, with many questioning his lack of public engagement, some conjectured that rather than tackling the urgent problem, he had been running for a CAF post.
However, in his first meeting with the management of Kotoko SC since the incident, Okraku dismissed the claims, clarifying that his trip was official duties and personal medical reasons.
“When the Nsoatre incident happened, I was out of the country, not for a CAF slot campaign but to work for the FA and seek medical attention. However, every action taken by the FA was under my directive, and we responded swiftly to the situation,” he explained.
Asante Kotoko has started training again as the Ghana Premier League’s return approaches, and the team is still calling for more stringent security at game venues.
