Jeremie Frimpong calls for stability for the growth of Ghana Football

Dutch defender of Ghanaian descent, Jeremie Frimpong, has called on Ghana’s football authorities to prioritize stability as a cornerstone for developing the sport in the country.

Ghanaian football is currently navigating challenging times. For the first time in 20 years, the Black Stars, Ghana’s senior national team, failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), finishing last in Group F with just three points.

On the domestic front, Ghanaian clubs have faced difficulties in asserting dominance in continental competitions.

However, Premier League club Dreams FC provided a glimmer of hope, reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup — the best performance by a Ghanaian club in years.

Frimpong, who actively follows Ghanaian football, highlighted the importance of structural stability in the sport’s development.

Speaking to Pan-Africa Football, the Bayer Leverkusen star remarked, “I feel like in Europe, the setup is good. I’m not saying that the setup is bad here [in Ghana], but the setup in Europe is stable.”

He added, “There are barely any problems. There is no cancellation of any matches, it’s very stable. I think if they bring stability here, things can be good.”

Jeremie Frimpong’s perspective reflects his experiences in Europe, where robust football systems have bolstered consistent growth and performance.

The 22-year-old defender has been in fine form for Bayer Leverkusen this season, amassing 16 appearances, two goals, and five assists.

His voice in crucial and adds weight to the growing call for transformative measures to revitalize Ghanaian football.
