Reports from the circles of Ghanaian football suggest that Black Stars assistant coaches John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann could be sacked by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The potential reshuffle comes after mounting criticism of the technical team, led by head coach Otto Addo, after Ghana failed to qualify for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Sources close to the GFA say that discussions are already underway with two foreign coaches—a Belgian and a Serbian—tipped to replace Paintsil and Laumann.
The identities of these potential replacements however remain undisclosed as of Thursday, January 16.
This move is seen as part of an effort to revamp the Black Stars’ technical staff and restore confidence ahead of the crucial 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, scheduled for March.
The Black Stars’ failure to secure AFCON qualification has sparked loads of outrage among Ghanaian football fans, with many calling for Otto Addo’s dismissal as well.
Otto Addo’s future with the team remains uncertain, and it is also not yet clear whether John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann will be officially relieved of their duties before the upcoming qualifiers.
The potential shake-up represents a huge shift in the Black Stars’ coaching setup, and all eyes will be on the GFA to see how this situation unfolds.
