Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum has praised new signing Kwame Opoku, expressing confidence in the striker’s ability to make an immediate impact ahead of their clash with Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

Opoku, who rejoined the Porcupine Warriors on a two-and-a-half-year deal this week, previously impressed during his first stint with the club in the 2020/21 season, netting six goals and providing three assists in 16 appearances.

Speaking to 3Sports, Ogum lauded Opoku’s professionalism and hunger to excel. “He’s a fine striker, a fine player. I like his level of professionalism. He’s been talking about how happy he is with the way we train here. He is excited to be back and ready to contribute his quota,” the coach said.

Ogum emphasized Opoku’s instinctive goal-scoring abilities, which he believes will be crucial for Kotoko in their bid to overturn their recent poor form. “We know he has the eye for goal, and that’s why we brought him back. Whether he’s scoring or assisting, we are confident he’ll contribute to our attack. It’s our duty to support him emotionally and psychologically to ensure he thrives,” Ogum added.

Kotoko, currently seventh in the Ghana Premier League, have won just one of their last five matches. The addition of Opoku is seen as a boost as they aim to secure a vital win against their arch-rivals and climb the league table.
