Kotoko relieve Prosper Ogum of IMC Role to Focus on Coaching

Asante Kotoko head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has been relieved of his duties on the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) to allow him to concentrate fully on his responsibilities as the team’s head coach.

The decision, endorsed by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Manhyia Palace, comes as the Porcupine Warriors work through a turbulent season.

Dr. Ogum’s inclusion in the IMC was part of a strategic restructuring initiative aimed at enhancing the club’s management and administrative systems. However, concerns arose over his dual responsibilities, particularly as the team’s on-field performances have been inconsistent.

Kotoko recently ended a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory against Aduana FC, a much-needed win that temporarily alleviated pressure on Ogum. Despite this reprieve, the team’s struggles have drawn intense scrutiny toward the head coach.

In a statement, the club explained that the move is intended to streamline operations and align efforts with the vision set forth by Manhyia.

“This decision allows Dr. Ogum to fully dedicate his efforts to his primary role as head coach, with a continued focus on leading the team to success on the pitch,” the statement read.

The IMC, which was established to provide strong leadership and administrative direction, will proceed without Dr. Ogum’s involvement as the club seeks to regain stability.

Currently sitting seventh on the Ghana Premier League table, Kotoko faces fierce rivals Hearts of Oak in their next league match, a fixture that could prove pivotal in defining their season.
