Kwesi Appiah touches on his dual role was handled by GFA ExCo

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council (Exco) member Kwesi Appiah has opened up on how his dual role as Sudan coach and ExCo member was managed .

Kwesi Appiah was asked by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to step down from one of his roles, as Sudan coach or member of the Executive Council, as his side was drawn in the same 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying group as Ghana.

Appiah chose to adhere to CAF’s demands, which was hinged on the the fact that there was ‘conflicting interest,’ and gave up his role as a member of the GFA Executive Council until the end of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Kwesi Appiah opened up to Oyerepa FM about how the situation was handled, and admitted that in crunch meetings involving the Black Stars, he was asked to excuse the Executive Council (ExCo) to take decisions.

“Since Ghana and Sudan were placed in the same qualification group, what happened was when the ExCo was having any discussion on the Black Stars, I was asked to leave the meetings so they can discuss. For me, it wasn’t a big deal. I didn’t expect to be part of those meetings since I was coach of Sudan,” he told Oyerepa FM.
