Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi has criticized Otto Addo for failing to meet expectations as head coach of the Black Stars.
Addo, 49, was appointed in March 2024 on a three-year deal but has faced significant backlash after the Black Stars missed out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) — their first absence in two decades. Ghana finished bottom of Group F, managing only three points in six games without a single victory.
In the past year, the Black Stars played 14 matches, winning only two. Addo was in charge of 10 of those games, overseeing a disappointing stretch of results.
“With the performance of the Black Stars under Otto Addo, everything shows that he is not doing well,” Nyantakyi told Asempa FM. “The last time Ghana failed to qualify for an AFCON tournament was twenty years ago, and under Otto Addo, we did not qualify. He has not performed.”
Nyantakyi refrained from calling for Addo’s dismissal, stating, “I am not in the position to say he has to be sacked or stay, but the numbers are there for all of us to see.”
