Hassan and Tebogo named 2024 World Athletes of the Year

Olympic champions Sifan Hassan and Letsile Tebogo were crowned World Athletes of the Year at the prestigious 2024 World Athletics Awards held in Monaco.

The pair earned the highest honors after a fan-driven vote, topping an evening that celebrated six standout athletes across three categories—track, field, and out-of-stadium—before the ultimate winners were unveiled.

Letsile Tebogo, renowned for his explosive performances on the track, was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, while the women’s accolade went to Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. Hassan, celebrated for her endurance feats, claimed the Women’s Out-of-Stadium Athlete title, with Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola taking the men’s equivalent. In the field category, pole vault sensation Mondo Duplantis and high jump star Yaroslava Mahuchikh were recognized as Field Athletes of the Year.

The awards also highlighted emerging talents, with Sembo Almayew and Mattia Furlani being honored as Rising Stars of 2024.

The ceremony celebrated the achievements of athletes who have excelled across diverse disciplines, setting new benchmarks in global athletics.
