The Black Maidens’ head coach, Nana Adarkwa, has assured Ghanaians of a possible host and win in the upcoming WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Cup.
From December 12 to 26, 2024, Ghana will host the upcoming WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Cup.
With all the games scheduled to take place at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Technical Centre in Prampram, the head coach of the Black Maidens, Nana Adarkwa, has expressed his optimism about hosting and winning the competition on home soil.
Speaking in an interview with Max FM, coach Adarkwa acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming tournament.
He also didn’t hesitate to accept the possibility of achieving the “host and win” with the team. He said in the interview, “Our group won’t be easy at all. I know we have tough games coming up. I believe a host and win is possible for us.”
Nana Adarkwa recently named a strong 20-girl squad for the two-week competition. The team also engaged in friendly games as part of preparations heading into the tournament.
The Black Maidens began their pre-tournament preparations with a 5-1 win over Rootz Sistaz. They recorded another 2-0 over the same side days later.
The Maidens also played an intense 0-0 game against Premier League side Epiphany Warriors. The Black Maidens have been drawn in Group A alongside Burkina Faso and Benin. Nigeria, Niger, and Ivory Coast have also been drawn in Group B.
