Otto Addo tells GFA he wants to build a cohesive Black Stars team

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed to the GFA his intention to build a disciplined and cohesive team which would be centered on accountability and trust.

During a meeting with the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Otto Addo made his thoughts known on his future desires for Ghana’s men’s national team, insisting a turnaround as vital.

According to a statement on the website of the GFA, the engagement between the football body and Addo was “open and candid” after he presented a detailed 56-page Technical Report that reviewed the national team’s latest failure to book a place at AFCON 2025.

“Coach Otto Addo accepted full responsibility for the team’s poor performance and acknowledged some shortcomings,” a portion of the FA statement said.

The FA stated that the report addressed the team’s shortcomings, and it was examined by members of the council and the regional chairmen, with Addo providing additional clarity on the current situation.

“He went on to outline key areas that needed enhancement going forward. He indicated that he intends to build a strong and cohesive system that fosters discipline, accountability, and trust among players and the backroom staff while emphasizing a clear and recognizable playing philosophy.”

The Executive Council then reechoed the feeling of disappointment among lots of Ghanaians over the Black Stars’ failure to reach AFCON 2025, and stated how vital it is to deliver, especially in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers which resumes next year.

They urged Addo to make sure a change is seen to reverse the situation and meet the high expectations of the nation.

However, reports indicate that after Otto Addo’s presentation, some members of the GFA ExCo insisted he should be sacked, while others preferred that he be retained.

The Black Stars fell four spots in the November’s FIFA rankings, dropping to 77th globally, and a huge task lies upon the hands of Addo to bring joy back to the people.
