Pep Guardiola: Man City needed to end losing streak

Pep Guardiola emphasized the importance of breaking Manchester City’s losing streak after their 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday ended a seven-game winless run. The slump, marked by six defeats, was the worst of Guardiola’s managerial career.

“We needed it—the club, the players, everyone. But it’s just one game,” said Pep Guardiola. “The issues remain with Nathan [Ake] and Manu [Akanji], but the key was breaking the routine of not winning.”

City’s recent struggles have been compounded by injuries, including the loss of Ballon d’Or winner Rodri to a long-term knee injury. The return of Kevin De Bruyne to the starting XI after nearly three months was pivotal, as the Belgian set up Bernardo Silva’s opener and scored the second himself.

Jeremy Doku added a third in the second half, ensuring City avoided a repeat of last week’s collapse against Feyenoord in the Champions League. Guardiola also addressed concerns over his relationship with De Bruyne, dismissing any rumors of a rift.

“Kevin fought hard to come back. He’s had injuries last season and this one. He played 75 fantastic minutes today,” Guardiola said.

Despite the victory, City face ongoing injury setbacks, with Ake and Akanji ruled out of Saturday’s clash against Crystal Palace. However, Phil Foden could return after recovering from bronchitis.

The win lifts City’s spirits as they aim to regain consistency in their Premier League title defense.
