Pep Guardiola reflects on Man City’s struggles

Pep Guardiola has candidly acknowledged the possibility of losing his job after Manchester City suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. The reigning champions are enduring their worst run under Guardiola, with four consecutive Premier League losses and six defeats in their last seven matches across all competitions.

As Liverpool fans taunted him with chants of “sacked in the morning,” Guardiola responded by holding up six fingers, symbolizing the six Premier League titles he has won with City. However, the iconic manager struck a reflective tone during his post-match interview.

“Maybe I deserve to be sacked, honestly, with our results,” Guardiola admitted. “Or maybe I’m still here because I’ve won six Premier Leagues and other titles. But I understand; it’s part of the game.”

Despite the fierce rivalry between Liverpool and City, Guardiola expressed surprise at the timing of the chants. “I didn’t expect Anfield to start chanting that at 0-2,” he remarked. “Maybe at 0-1 when the game was still open, or even last season when we were dominating. But that’s football—when you win, you laugh; when you lose, they laugh.”

Guardiola also reminded critics of his achievements, stating, “I’m so proud of my six Premier Leagues against this team and others. But when the results are like this, criticism is normal.”

With City’s title defense under serious threat, Guardiola now faces the challenge of restoring his team’s form during what has become one of the most testing periods of his managerial career.
