Former member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Sammy Anim Addo has criticized the Federation, accusing referee Maxwell Hanson of being their “man for dirty works” in a thread of intriguing revelations.

Addo’s words come after Accra Lions’ complaints over his officiating in their recent 1-0 defeat against Dreams FC in the Ghana Premier League.

Accra Lions voiced their frustration and alleged they were “robbed”, as they called for reforms in Ghanaian football.

Nonetheless, Dreams FC issued a statement in Hanson’s defense, referencing the experience of poor officiating on the part of every club as routine.

Anim Addo is now President of newly-promoted Young Apostles, and joined the criticism, deeming Hanson the man for ‘dirty works.’

The former GFA EXCO member took to social media on X to recount ways in which he had been silenced by GFA leadership because he raised concerns about officiating.

“Maxwell Hanson is their man for ‘dirty works,’” Anim Addo wrote. “I sounded the alarm bells months ago but I was vehemently challenged with every attempt to ‘shush’ me by the leadership of Ghana Football… His disgraceful conduct undermines the league’s quality.”
Anim Addo furt her alleged that he had been threatened with relegation for speaking out, stating, “I have been threatened many times already that this GFA administration will ensure foul means to relegate my club, Young Apostles. But, I want to sound caution to them, that, it is not the worst they can do to me and my continuous investment and commitment to Ghana football.”

Anim Addo’s words have ignited a huge debate on social media about the lack of transparency and accountability in Ghanaian football with many deeming the situation as ‘shameful.’
