The highly-anticipated return of Ghanaian midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh to competitive football looks uncertain by the day with SC Freiburg coach Julian Schuster stating that the player needs more time to regain full fitness.
Kyereh has been sidelined since he suffered an Anterior Cruciate ligament tear nearly two years ago.
Providing an update during a pre-match press conference for Freiburg’s clash with Hoffenheim, Schuster reiterated the need for patience in Kyereh’s recovery.
“Kofi still has a way to go,” Schuster said. “When you’re out for a long time, it’s all about general fitness. His recovery has shown positive signs, but it’s a process that varies for every individual.” He said.
The Ghanaian midfielder’s coach also acknowledged the challenges of predicting Kyereh’s return: “Given the duration of the injury, it’s hard to set a definite timeframe. Our focus is on ensuring he fully recovers before stepping back on the pitch.”
Daniel-Kofi Kyereh joined Freiburg in June 2022 and went on to become a key player, scoring his first Bundesliga goal against Mainz on October 1, 2022.
Nonetheless, his progress was halted abruptly by the huge injury, leaving both club and country missing out on his quality.
Fans would have to wait a while longer for Kyereh’s return, but should he finally take to the pitch, it would be a marvelous sight for them and the player as well.
