Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah is reportedly being considered for a position on the reconstituted Black Stars management committee as Ghana prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March.
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku is leading efforts to rebuild the committee, with four individuals, including Appiah, being considered for key roles.
The proposed members include Executive Council member Dr. Randy Abbey, who is expected to chair the committee, Richard Duah Nsenkyire of Samartex FC, and Samuel Aboabri, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association.
Appiah’s involvement would mark his return to the committee, having been named a member in 2022, although he chose not to attend meetings due to concerns over process and management.
Appiah addressed these issues in a June 2023 interview and said: “I have my reasons for not attending meetings; it’s not personal. I always want things done the right way.”
He dismissed any notion of a rift with Kurt Okraku and emphasized that their relationship is in a good place.
The GFA is also exploring other key appointments which include a technical director to support Otto Addo, as Ghana eyes another World Cup berth.
Other roles under review include a team psychologist and adjustments to the Team Manager position, potentially involving a former Black Stars player to strengthen the team’s operational capacity.
These appointments are expected to be finalized ahead of the March 2025 qualifiers as per reports.
