Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hailed Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey as a “massive player” following the Gunners’ commanding 5-1 victory over Sporting CP in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Partey, who was benched for the first time this season during Arsenal’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest over the weekend, delivered a sensational performance after being introduced early in the second half. The 30-year-old wasted no time making an impact, scoring a stunning long-range goal and dictating play from midfield.

In a standout display at the Estádio José Alvalade, Partey completed 60 of his 65 passes, touched the ball 72 times, provided one key pass, and won three out of five ground duels. He also made two successful tackles and assisted Bukayo Saka, who set up Kai Havertz for Arsenal’s second goal.

“I think it’s one of the best performances I have seen from him, especially the way he dominated the game,” the Arsenal manager said after the match about Thomas Partey. “This year, he’s been so consistent as well because he always has a role. That’s a big thing. He’s a massive player for us.”

Partey has been integral to Arsenal’s success this season, providing a crucial balance between attack and defense. In 12 league appearances, he has scored twice and consistently delivered impactful performances, whether starting or coming off the bench.

With the Gunners chasing success on multiple fronts, Arteta will be counting on Partey’s quality and consistency to maintain their momentum in the Premier League and beyond.
