Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed disappointment over his departure from Manchester United following a successful interim spell as head coach. Despite his achievements, he acknowledges the decision of incoming manager Ruben Amorim to bring in his own coaching staff.
Van Nistelrooy, who was appointed Leicester City manager last month, led United to an unbeaten four-game run after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal. Speaking to reporters, he shared his feelings about leaving Old Trafford, a club where he enjoyed strong ties as both a player and coach.
“I was very disappointed and hurt to leave,” he admitted. “United was the only place I’d take an assistant role because of my bond with the club and the fans. But I understood Ruben’s decision. Our conversation, manager to manager, helped me move forward and explore new opportunities.”
Now focused on his new role, Van Nistelrooy is determined to steer Leicester City away from the relegation zone. Drawing on his early career experiences in Dutch football, he emphasized his ability to adapt to challenging situations.
“People remember my time at Real Madrid and Manchester United, but my first years as a pro with FC Den Bosch were a fight. That resilience is something I bring to Leicester,” he stated.
Leicester City, currently 16th in the Premier League, face a crucial match against West Ham United, with Van Nistelrooy aiming to inspire a turnaround for the struggling side.
