‘We were not good enough’- says Otto Addo

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has left his thoughts on the current disappointing situation of Ghana’s men’s national team after their 1-1 draw with Angola that led them to miss out on the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years.

Addo stated candidly in his post match conference that his team lacked the much-needed intensity to match Angola and grab all three points on Matchday five to keep their qualifying chances alive.

“Angola did not have anything to lose. They pressed better than we did. We were missing their intensity and were not good enough.”

“In these tournaments you have to win your home games. It’s very difficult to win away but these games are important because everyone wants to get up there” Otto Addo added.

Ghanaians have been left furious after the Black Stars failed to pick up their first win the qualifying series after the fifth Matchday, and believe immediate action is needed to be taken to salvage the situation.

Many have called for the sack of Otto Addo, while others have labelled the failure of Ghana in recent AFCON tournaments and qualifiers as one that emanates from the poor management by its managers.

The Black Stars will not be featuring in the 24-man tournament next year in Morocco and have themselves to blame for their poor performances in the qualifiers.

For Otto Addo, a sack looks imminent with his second stint deemed ‘unreasonable’ by many who have consistently questioned his experience and tactical abilities.

Otto Addo recorded a 28 percent win rate in his two stints as Ghana head coach after leading the team in 21 matches.
