Samuel Anim Addo, Chief Executive Officer of Young Apostles FC, has alleged that his team has been threatened with relegation by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following his outspoken criticism of referee Maxwell Hanson.
The controversy erupted after Anim Addo criticized Hanson’s officiating in Accra Lions’ recent 1-0 defeat to Dreams FC in a Matchday 16 clash at the Tuba Astro Turf. Accra Lions also voiced their frustration in a statement, accusing Hanson of poor officiating and demanding reforms.
In a social media post, Anim Addo labeled Hanson as a “man for dirty works” and accused the GFA of turning a blind eye to what he described as repeated instances of poor officiating. He claimed, “Maxwell Hanson is their man for ‘dirty works.’ His disgraceful conduct undermines the league’s quality.”
Anim Addo further alleged that his criticism of officiating had led to threats of relegation for his club. “I have been threatened many times already that this GFA administration will ensure foul means to relegate my club, Young Apostles. But it is not the worst they can do to me,” he wrote, emphasizing his continued commitment to Ghana football despite these challenges.
Dreams FC, however, defended Hanson, stating that poor officiating is a league-wide issue and not unique to any one club.
The GFA has yet to officially respond to Anim Addo’s allegations or Accra Lions’ demands for officiating reforms.
